Why being local actually matters here

Two reasons, and neither is sentimental. The first is scheduling. Exterior painting in Minnesota happens in a narrow window, and when a stretch of good weather appears we would rather be twenty minutes away than an hour. The second is that we come back. Touch-ups, a fence the following year, the trim you decided to leave for now: none of that is worth doing if the drive makes it uneconomical.

The towns are genuinely different

The east metro is not one housing stock. Woodbury has been building continuously since the first subdivision broke ground at Woodbury Heights in 1955, so it runs from mid-century streets to construction finished last year. Hastings has a residential historic district along West Second Street where the surfaces have been painted several times already. West St. Paul grew fastest in the 1960s. Newport and St. Paul Park are small established river towns.

That changes the work. Older siding and trim needs more prep and more patience, and it is usually where repair work turns up. Newer construction is mostly a color decision. We would rather price those honestly as different jobs than quote a flat rate per square foot and hope.
